George Ratermann, 63, Dies; Was Surgical Patient
George Ratermann, 63, died at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, at 6:05 p.m. Friday. He had been admitted that day as a surgical patient and died following an operation of the throat.
He was a son of the late Fred and Ann (Heckmann) Ratermann, born June 21, 1888 at Carlyle. He is survived by his wife, the former Rose Hilmes, whom he married May 17, 1911. Mr. Ratermann was superintendent of streets here for about eight years and at the time of his death was employed as an engineer at the power house. He was a member of the Carlyle Volunteer Fire Department.
Other survivors are two brothers, Frank, of East St. Louis, John, of Carlyle, and a sister, Mrs. A. L. Bretz of Carlyle.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Church by Msgr. B. Hilgenberg with burial in the church cemetery.
