Alois Varel, 91
Retired rural Bartelso farmer Alois H. Varel died at his home on Monday, Dec. 28th, 1998, at the age of 91 years.
Born in Bartelso on May 1st, 1907, he was a son of Herman and Catherine Pingsterhaus Varel. On April 24th, 1934, in Albers, he married Martha Jansen, and she survives.
Additional survivors include four sons; Louis, Albert, Gerald and Donald Varel, all of Bartelso and six daughters, Mrs. Dolores Henrichs of St. Rose, Mrs. Rita Ratermann, Mrs. Marilyn Kruse and Mrs. Rosemary Richter, all of Breese, Mrs. Lorraine VonderHaar of Carlyle and Mrs. Jane Deerhake of Bartelso; 29 grandchildren and 32 great-grand children and one brother, William Varel of Bartelso.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian VonderHaar, three brothers, Frank, Henry and Alphonse Varel and two sisters, Rose Bergmann and Mary Voss.
Mr. Varel was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso and the Clinton County Farm Bureau.
Rev. Ted Baumann officiated at services held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Cecilia church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.
